Assuming that you accept the rationale and potential benefits of project-based learning then the question is why is it not a more commonly adopted strategy in schools and colleges. In this lesson we look at the barriers to adoption and how the ideal becomes compromised to some kind of hybrid approach.
- Do you recognise the barriers to implementation? Which of these are dominant in your institution?
- How many of these barriers are personal to you and your immediate team? How might you need to change your thinking in order to adopt PBL in your department?
- Have you tried project-based learning and felt the approach compromised? Do you think those compromises affected the outcomes for learners?
